Common name: Pink Turtlehead

Scientific name: Chelone lyonii

Dimensions:
    Flower: About 1" (2.5 cm) long
    Plant height: 1-3' (30-90 cm)

Blooming period: July-September

Habitat: Rich woods, wet thickets, stream banks

Description: Pink or rose-purple flowers on compact spikes; tubular, 2-lipped flowers with yellow beard resemble turtle heads; 2-lobed upper corolla lip arches over 3-lobed lower lip. Leaves 3-7" (7.5-17.5 cm) long, pointed, toothed, rounded at base; leaf stalk often more than 1" (2.5 cm) long. Escaped from cultivation. Native to southern states, sparingly found in New Hampshire and New England. Figwort family. (September 5)
