Deptford Pink

Common name: Deptford Pink (Grass Pink)

Scientific name: Dianthus armeria

Dimensions:
  Flower: 1/2" (1.5 cm) wide
  Plant height: 6-24" (15-60 cm)

Blooming period: May-September

Habitat: Fields, meadows and roadsides

Description: Deep pink dotted flowers in flat-topped clusters of 3-9 on stiff, erect, hairy stems. 5 white-dotted petals with jagged edges. Flowers often surpassed by the slender, erect bracts. Basal leaves numerous, narrowly oblong or lanceolate, erect, 1-4" (2.5-10 cm) long. Closely related to Maiden Pink which has larger, solitary flowers. Pink family. (July 25)
