Scientific name: Polygonum pensylvanicum

Dimensions:
    Flower: About 1/8" (3 mm) long
    Plant height: 1-4' (30-120 cm)

Blooming period: June-October

Habitat: Damp soil, roadsides, fields, gardens

Description: Numerous, petal-less flowers in dense spikes on sticky-hairy stalks; 4-6 showy, colorful sepals; 3-9 stamens; clusters 1/2-2½" 1.5-6.5 cm) long. Leaves 3-6" (7.5-15 cm) long, narrow, lanceolate, with 3/8-1½" (9-40 mm) long stalk; joints reddish, leaves shiny. Tiny hair-like glands on upper branches and stems. Buckwheat family. (August 28)
