Common name: Lapland Rosebay

Scientific name: Rhododendron lapponicum

Dimensions:
    Flower: 1/2-3/4" (12-20 mm) wide
    Plant height: 4-12" (10-30 cm)

Blooming period: May-July

Habitat: Alpine summits above tree-line near
protected areas

Description: Low, aromatic evergreen Alpine plant forming mats. Dark pink to lavender flowers with 5 deep lobes and several protruding stamens in few-flowered clusters. Leaves elliptical or oval, 1/2" to 3/4" (12-20 mm) long covered with brownish scales,
especially underneath. Heath family. (June 25)
