Common name: Dense Blazing Star
(Spiked Blazing Star)

Scientific name: Liatris spicata

Dimensions:
    Flower: Head 1/8-1/4" (3-6 mm) wide
    Plant height: 1-5' (30-150 cm)

Blooming period: July-September

Habitat: Wet meadows, moist open places

Description: A dense spike of ray-less, rose- purple flower heads crowded and overlapping; heads rounded at base, sessile, with 5-9 florets per head; long styles extend well beyond flower lobes; flower bracts few, long, blunt, scale-like, with purple edges. Leaves numerous, linear, 4-16" (10-40 cm) long. Plant usually hairless. Aster family. ( August 8)
