Common name: Brown Knapweed

Scientific name: Centaurea jacea

Dimensions:
    Flower: 3/4-1 3/4" (2-4.5 cm) wide
    Plant height: 8-40" (20-100 cm)

Blooming period: July-September

Habitat: Fields, roadsides, weedy places

Description: Solitary heads of rose-purple flowers with brownish finely-fringed bracts covering the base of the flower head; showy outer flowers of the head larger than the others. Upper leaves slender and un-toothed; basal leaves 4-6" (10-15 cm) long, elliptic, sometimes with small lobes. Composite family. (August 16)
